We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
Get ready for the biggest event in the Tri-Cities. Canada Day in Coquitlam returns to Town Centre Park on Monday, July 1 with a wide range of entertainment, multicultural performances, fireworks, food, free and family-friendly fun activities.
This year, as part of our commitment to reconciliation, Indigenous non-profit society Spirit of the Children, will be lighting sage and smudging the surrounding area. Join us at The Meadow where the Spirit of the Children activation is located as we come together in a spirit of unity and respect.
