Construction of the 4.4-hectare (10.8-acre) Harper Park expansion, located off Harper Road in Burke Mountain’s Smiling Creek neighbourhood, was completed in December 2020.
Funded and constructed by housing developers Wesbild and Infinity Properties, the expansion created one large passive park rather than the two smaller parks previously planned for the area.
The expanded park retains much of the existing forest while adding features that allow for the passive enjoyment of the space, including:
- 620 metres of trails
- Interpretive signage and creative features reflecting Burke Mountain’s natural beauty and logging history
- Picnic tables
- Rest areas
- Wooden pedestrian bridge over Smiling Creek
Access is provided from trailheads at Highland Drive to the south, and along the Harper Road multi-use pathway to the north and northeast.
