[ARCHIVED] Volunteer Guest Speaking Opportunities Available in Coquitlam Recreation Facilities

COQUITLAM, BC, Jan. 29, 2020 – Coquitlam is seeking community partners to engage seniors on a variety of topics in recreation centres this fall.

The City is looking for professionals from educational institutions, not-for-profit organizations and regulatory bodies to educate seniors during presentations at Dogwood Pavilion and Glen Pine Pavilion.

New Process for Applications

Starting January 2020, presentation inquires can be directed to the Guest Speaker Application Form on the Dogwood Pavilion and Glen Pine Pavilion web pages.

To apply, visit www.coquitlam.ca/dogwood or www.coquitlam.ca/glenpine.

Community Partners Help Make Great Programs

As the 50-plus population group doubles in size over the next 10 to 15 years, it will grow more culturally diverse, have an even wider range of interests, and face a variety of potential barriers to participation. To help meet the needs of this growing and diverse demographic, the volunteer guest speakers program will aim to engage with community partners to strengthen the recreation services available in Coquitlam.

The initiative supports Coquitlam’s Senior Services Strategy of access and inclusion for all, excellence in program and service delivery, and communications and collaboration. Through this initiative, the City hopes to strengthen recreation service delivery collaboration across the Tri-Cities and explore potential partnership opportunities.

About the Seniors Services Strategy

The City began developing the Seniors Services Strategy in 2016, building from the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Master Plan. Adopted in 2018, the Strategy focuses on service delivery within the mandate of the Coquitlam Parks, Recreation & Culture Services (PRC) Department and a framework to address the delivery of current and anticipated future PRC services for Coquitlam’s older adults and seniors. This Strategy is organized around a strategic framework of four overarching goals. Each goal is supported, in turn, by a series of Action Items to be initiated in the future and considered for implementation as part of future years’ business plans.
