[ARCHIVED] Activities Restart Sept. 8 at Coquitlam’s 50-plus Pavilions

Coquitlam

COQUITLAM, B.C., Sept. 4, 2020 – Older adults in Coquitlam can soon return to some of their favourite activities at Glen Pine and Dogwood Pavilions.

The City’s two 50-plus facilities will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8 with a range of pre-registered fitness and leisure programs along with specialty clubs and groups.

Similar to other Coquitlam facilities, all access to the Pavilions will require pre-registration, and activities have been adapted to ensure safe distancing, hand hygiene, reduced touchpoints and other health precautions. The reopening is guided by the City’s reopening framework, based on B.C.’s Restart Plan.

  • Line dancing, painting, Spanish, ukulele, drawing and Qigong; and
  • Activity Groups for members of the 50plus Society including Crafters, Quilters, Art Group and Leisure Group.

Pre-registered activities at Dogwood Pavilion, 1655 Winslow Ave., will include:

  • Line dancing, painting, Spanish, photography and guitar; and
  • Activity Groups for members of the 50plus Society including Crafts, Stroke Recovery, Turn Up and Paint, Quilters, Drama, Wii, Friendship Circle, Fantasy Woodcarving, Genealogy, Life Writing, South Asian Group, Ice Skating and Bingo

More activities may be added over time. Drop-in spaces and on-site food services remain closed.

Health Protocols Keep Visitors Safe

Each Coquitlam facility has a safety plan in place to protect the public and staff. These plans include changes to access and activities to ensure safe distancing, hand hygiene, reduced touchpoints and other health precautions.

Signs, floor markings and facility staff provide guidance at the sites, and further details and maps can be found at www.coquitlam.ca/registration.

Other Opportunities for 50-plus Adults

The City’s CoquitlamSPIRIT program has compiled a variety of free activities and resources for older adults at www.coquitlam.ca/spirit. The dedicated 50-plus section includes activities such as creative writing, at-home workouts, information about the City’s Meals for Seniors and community resources for seniors.

Adults can also sign up for activities at other Coquitlam facilities, including:

  • Pre-registered drop-in skating, swimming and weight room access at Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex;
  •  Pre-registered drop-in fitness, swimming, aquafit and weight-room access at City Centre Aquatic Complex; and
