[ARCHIVED] Watch Coquitlam’s Live Summer Concerts Online Starting July 23

Redwoods

COQUITLAM, B.C., July 21, 2021 – Coquitlam will launch its virtual Summer Concert Series this week with the original rock of Redwoods on July 23, followed by the West Coast Celtic stylings of Duane, Dave and Johanna of the Town Pants on Aug. 6.

The concert videos capture the first two of four exciting live performances at the drive-in concerts held July 17 and 18 – a pandemic-friendly modification of the fifth annual concert series that formerly attracted thousands to Town Centre Park over the summer.

Starting July 23, a new concert video will premiere every other Friday at 5 p.m. on Coquitlam’s Facebook page and YouTube channel and then be available for viewing on-demand until Sept. 17 at www.coquitlam.ca/summerconcerts

Having been filmed in front of an audience, the concert videos will bring the feel and energy of an in-person concert into living rooms across the community.

Vancouver’s Redwoods kicks off the virtual series July 23 with original rock that blends soulful vocals, guitar harmonies and dynamic songwriting. With a sound reminiscent of 1970s hard rock and 1990s grunge, Redwoods fuses the best parts of soul with alternative and classic rock ’n’ roll while delivering notoriously fun and electrifying live performances. The band recently recorded its second full-length album, capping an eventful year that included opening for Royal Tusk at the Fox Cabaret and participating in the Jim Beam Talent Search Virtual Edition.

Next in the lineup, on Aug. 6, Duane, Dave and Johanna of the Town Pants will showcase the Vancouver-based band’s unique brand of high energy West Coast Celtic, featuring its signature dual lead vocals and combining aspects of Irish traditional, folk-rock and roots-Americana. The Town Pants' distinctive style of Celtic-Roots-Rock spans six studio and two live albums, backed up by a legendary live show that has taken the band from New York to Norway and seen them through a decade’s worth of headlining Roots and Celtic festivals and sold-out rock venues.

Upcoming installments include John Welsh & Los Valientes (folk, surf rock, reggae and Latin music) on Aug. 20 and Raincity (high-energy funk fronted by female leads) on Sept. 3. For more information about the series, visit www.coquitlam.ca/summerconcerts.

Support for local eateries is again built into the series as part of the City’s commitment to supporting businesses. Residents are encouraged to enjoy take-out from local restaurants while they view the concerts, and watch for giveaways of $50 restaurant gift certificates during each concert.
