[ARCHIVED] Two More Summer Concerts to Enjoy Online Starting Aug. 20

Summer Concert Series John Welsh Los Valientes Raincity

COQUITLAM, B.C., Aug. 12, 2021 – Live concert videos featuring the cool Latin surfer rhythms of John Welsh & Los Valientes and the bluesy funk rock of Raincity will soon be available for free streaming through Coquitlam’s Summer Concert Series.

The final two segments of the City’s fifth annual concert series will premiere at 5 p.m. on Aug. 20 (John Welsh & Los Valientes) and Sept. 3 (Raincity) on Coquitlam’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. They may then be viewed on-demand at www.coquitlam.ca/summerconcerts until Sept. 17, along with two other videos from the live drive-in concerts July 17 and 18 that kicked off this year’s modified series, previously held at Town Centre Park.

Experience Four Live Concerts at Home

Reformatted for a second year to meet public health protocols, this year’s hybrid concert series offered residents both a safe live music experience and the option to enjoy the feel and energy of an in-person concert from the comfort of home.

Streaming Aug. 20, John Welsh & Los Valientes bring a global sound to the series, with upbeat rhythms influenced by Latin, reggae, calypso and east coast Canadiana. Frontman Welsh believes music has the power to bring people together, having learned to connect with others with his guitar and knack for language while living abroad at a young age. Now working on new music, the group of Canadian and Colombian musicians is a festival favourite and were nominated for a 2019 Fraser Valley Music Award.

Vancouver’s Raincity streams on Sept. 3, showcasing its trademark high-energy sound that blends funky beats with rock, blues, pop, grunge, jazz and other eclectic influences from the likes of Moon Hooch, Amy Winehouse, Queen and RAGE. With a new album out this summer, the female-fronted act has excelled at local band competitions and performed on stages such as the Commodore Ballroom and Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre, and opened for Our Lady Peace, Bif Naked and Five Alarm Funk.

Also streaming at www.coquitlam.ca/summerconcerts from now until Sept. 17 are earlier installments featuring Redwoods (original rock reminiscent of 1970s hard rock and 1990s grunge) and Duane, Dave and Johanna of the Town Pants (high-energy West Coast Celtic).

What Did You Think? Give Your Feedback and Win

Coquitlam residents who watch at least one online segment have a chance to win a $100 Coquitlam Centre gift card by taking a City survey at www.coquitlam.ca/summerconcerts by Sept. 17. Sponsored by Coquitlam Centre, the survey collects feedback to guide the planning of future City events and programs.
