[ARCHIVED] Swimmers Welcomed Back to CCAC Oct. 4

Adult and child swimming

COQUITLAM, B.C., Oct. 1, 2021 – Swimmers will be welcomed back to Coquitlam’s City Centre Aquatic Complex (CCAC) on Oct. 4 after its annual maintenance shutdown.

Over the past month, City staff have been busy completing important maintenance and deep cleaning at CCAC while construction has continued on the major expansion that began in February. Visitors will arrive to a new foyer, while other areas being renovated are now within weeks of completion.

In conjunction with the CCAC reopening, Eagle Ridge Pool and Spani Pool will close for the season Monday, Oct. 4. Spani was kept open through September for the first time this year to provide additional options for swimmers.

Clean, Maintained Facility Will Greet Visitors

The CCAC features reopening on Oct. 4 include an eight-lane Olympic-sized lap pool with rope swing and diving boards; a free-form wave pool with lazy river, slide and water sprays; and a relaxation area with a dry sauna, steam pool and whirlpool.

Visitors may notice resurfaced changeroom floors, new tilework in the lobby and lobby washrooms, and new grout in the leisure pool, hot tub and shower walls. Work during the shutdown – which helps maximize the lifespan of City assets – also included slide repairs, equipment deep cleaning, and servicing of the moveable floor and pool mechanical systems.

While the BC Vaccine Card is required for participation in indoor fitness, proof of vaccination is not required for swimming pool entry, and drop-in swimming is permitted without registration. For hours, aquafit class schedules and COVID-19 protocols, visit www.coquitlam.ca/CCAC

New Amenities Now Weeks Away

Construction work on the CCAC expansion is now in its final stretch. The project is adding 250 square metres (2,700 square feet) of new space and renovating 1,050 square metres (11,300 square feet) of existing space. Upgrades include a more welcoming lobby entrance, new concession, a reorganized and larger fitness centre and studio, expanded multi-use spaces and a renovated administration area.

The official re-opening date will be announced in the next few weeks. With the reopening of the expanded fitness space, the temporary fitness centre at the Innovation Centre will close.

Discounts Available With ONE PASS

CCAC users can enjoy discounted drop-in rates with Coquitlam’s ONE PASS.

Relaunched in September with new options, the pass is valid at all indoor Coquitlam recreation facilities for drop-in indoor aquatics, arena, fitness and gym programs. The passes can be purchased in person at City recreation facilities or by phone at 604-927-4386. For information, visit www.coquitlam.ca/onepass.

Financial Assistance Available for Recreation

It’s now easier than ever to access financial support for Coquitlam’s recreation services. The City has relaunched a more user-friendly Financial Assistance for Recreation program – formerly known as Get Connected, Get Active – with easier sign-up and income verification plus more flexibility than ever. For details or to register online, visit www.coquitlam.ca/financialassistancerec.
