COQUITLAM, B.C., April 21, 2022 – Coquitlam residents looking for indoor or outdoor recreation opportunities will have plenty of choices this spring and summer.

Spots are still available in a variety of registered programs this spring; summer program registration will kick off April 27 for skating and swimming and May 18 for general recreation and fitness. Coquitlam’s outdoor pools, spray parks and wading pools will start to open later this spring as well.

Increasing Recreation Options Available

With the lifting of health restrictions, Coquitlam has been working to return recreation programming to pre-pandemic capacity.

Some late-spring registered programs still have openings, including outdoor recreation programs such as Backcountry Navigation, beginner and intermediate hikes (ages 16-plus), Eco Trekkers (ages 2-3 and 7-10), iRide Cycling BC Mountain Biking (ages 7-10), Little Nature Explorers (ages 3-5) and Little Creators: Nature (ages 2-3).

These and other outdoor recreation programs will also be offered this summer.

Go Online to View Recreation Offerings

Browse through www.coquitlam.ca/registration to check out current registered and drop-in recreation opportunities for all ages and interests.

For an advance look at this summer’s program offerings before registration opens, visit the website on April 25 at 8:30 a.m. for skating and swimming (register starting April 27 at 8:30 a.m.) and May 16 at 8:30 a.m. for general recreation and fitness, including summer camps (register starting May 18 at 8:30 a.m.).

Due to maintenance upgrades, there will be no ice programs from mid-June to late July. City skating lessons and drop-ins will return Aug. 9.

Registration options include:

  • www.coquitlam.ca/registration 24 hours a day, seven days a week;
  • At facilities during operating hours; and
  • By phone at 604-927-4386 weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. (except for statutory holidays), and weekends 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Supporting Accessibility at Coquitlam Pools

The City’s indoor and outdoor pools feature a growing array of accessibility equipment as part of Coquitlam’s efforts to expand access to recreation. This includes:

  • Water wheelchairs at City Centre Aquatic Centre (CCAC), Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex (PSLC), and Eagle Ridge and Spani Outdoor Pools;
  • Change tables at CCAC and PSLC;
  • New transfer lifts at CCAC, PSLC, and Eagle Ridge and Spani Outdoor Pools to move visitors between their own wheelchairs and water wheelchairs (all three sites) or change tables (CCAC and PSLC); and
  • Pool ramps at CCAC (leisure pool), PSLC (lap and leisure pools) and Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool.

For more information about Coquitlam’s commitment to accessibility and related resources, visit www.coquitlam.ca/recinclusion.
