COQUITLAM, B.C., May 2, 2022 – Coquitlam is developing an Economic Development Strategy (EDS) and is seeking public input to inform the vision for a local economy that works for everyone.
The new EDS will support Coquitlam’s efforts to build a responsible future with shared prosperity. As the backbone of local entrepreneurship and economic vitality, local businesses and residents are foundational to the City’s success and livability.
How to Get Involved
The EDS will be guided by community values and input from the business community, supported by feedback from the general public, as well as other interested parties, including youth and young adults.
For more information on the EDS and to share your thoughts on economic development in Coquitlam, visit letstalkcoquitlam.ca/ecdev before June 15, 2022. By taking approximately five minutes to complete a survey, respondents will not only provide valuable feedback, but can also enter to win one of three $50 gift cards to a local restaurant. Respondents can also sign up to participate in one-on-one interviews that will be selectively chosen to provide additional input focused on local business needs.
About the Economic Development Strategy
The Economic Development Strategy (EDS) will be developed through extensive research, analysis, and public engagement. Building upon Coquitlam’s strengths and assets, the EDS will identify challenges, as well as future opportunities for the City, and engage with businesses, community organizations, youth, and First Nations, to contribute to a strategy that works for everyone.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a lot of hardship and imbalances in the local economic system. While the pandemic recovery continues to present uncertainty, which is always challenging for business climate, it also provides potential opportunities to pivot, re-evaluate our focus, and reassess strategic directions for more resilient local economic development. The EDS will serve as this unifying and guiding roadmap, spurring a clear five-year action plan to support our local economy and the ongoing establishment of a complete community.
Next Steps
Following the engagement process, feedback will be reviewed to inform the vision and goals of the EDS. The results of the public feedback will be shared with Council and the community this fall. The final EDS is anticipated to be finished in winter 2022/23 for implementation beginning in 2023.
