Transportation plans provide a framework to coordinate Coquitlam’s future transportation system. They are important for many reasons:
- Plans act as a guide for residents and businesses on the City’s transportation priorities.
- Plans help Coquitlam to leverage funding from senior levels of government.
- They help align City’s transportation priorities with its overall strategic goals.
- They help ensure that mobility, access and safety are provided for all modes of transportation.
Strategic Transportation Plan
The Strategic Transportation Plan is a comprehensive and multi-modal Plan developed in consultation with the public and adopted in 2012. It serves as a "road map" for Coquitlam’s transportation system over the next 20 years and beyond.
We are currently updating the Strategic Transportation Plan to guide transportation improvements over the coming years.
A lot has changed in our community since the current version of the Plan was last adopted in 2012: the Millennium Line Evergreen SkyTrain Extension in 2017; changes to best practices in street design; the need to address climate change mitigation and adaptation; as well as opportunities and challenges associated with emerging technologies.
The Plan update will take place over five phases and be developed through extensive research, best practices, technical analysis and community engagement to create a feasible plan that reflects the needs and priorities of Coquitlam residents, visitors and businesses.
