COQUITLAM, B.C., September 12, 2025 – Do you want to make a difference where you live, work or study? The City of Coquitlam is recruiting volunteers to join the Coquitlam Public Library Board, the Board of Variance, and the Economic Development Advisory Committee. 

Serving on a board or committee is your chance to share your voice, learn new skills and help shape decisions that affect daily life in Coquitlam.

Where You Can Make an Impact

The City of Coquitlam is currently looking for new members to bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the:

• Library Board (4 seats, 2-year term): Help guide the future of Coquitlam’s library services and support its mission to connect and inspire the community.
• Board of Variance (2 seats, 3-year term): Provide fair and independent decisions on property variance requests, balancing neighbourhood needs and City policies.
• Economic Development Advisory Committee (1 seat, 1-year term): Advise on strategies that support local businesses and foster economic growth in Coquitlam.

Information Session for the Public Library Board

An online information session for prospective Coquitlam Public Library Board members will be held via Zoom on:

Who Should Apply?

If you’re passionate about community, curious about how things work, or want to add your voice to local decision-making, we want to hear from you. Whether you’re a long-time resident, a student, or someone who works in Coquitlam, your perspective matters.

Diverse experiences, backgrounds, and voices are encouraged to apply — strong decisions come from a variety of viewpoints.

Eligibility Criteria and How to Apply

The City of Coquitlam is looking for a wide range of perspectives and experiences. The following criteria will be used to evaluate applicants:

• Residing in Coquitlam is not required, but preferred.
• Library Board applicants must be residents of Coquitlam or electors of the municipality (as legislated under the Library Act).
• Applicants should demonstrate community involvement, knowledge of the board/committee’s mandate, and relevant interest or experience to ensure they can contribute meaningfully.
• Applicants of any age, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, political belief, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental ability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, neighbourhood, and income level are encouraged to apply.
• Applicants should be aware of the required time commitment and be able to commit to meetings for the full term of the appointment. Learn more about the meeting schedules of the boards/committees at coquitlam.ca/VolunteerBoards.
• Applicants may not be employees of the City of Coquitlam.
