Coquitlam Fire/Rescue takes a proactive approach in reducing the potential hazards and risks of fire through inspections and enforcement of codes, standards and regulations which are designed to provide preventative measures to reduce the start and spread of fire.
The Fire Prevention Officers within our Fire Prevention Division are responsible for annually inspecting properties and businesses to ensure compliance with the British Columbia Fire Code and local Bylaws, conducting fire investigations, and providing fire safety education to members of the community.
Like most equipment in buildings, fire alarm systems have wearing components. That is, over time, these systems will require repair in order to be maintained in operating condition in accordance with the British Columbia Fire Code.
As part of the Fire Prevention and Life Safety Bylaw, it is illegal to buy or sell fireworks in Coquitlam. Setting off fireworks is also prohibited unless the user has a permit from the Coquitlam Fire/Rescue Department.
Coquitlam has many areas where the wilderness and urban development meet. This means that structures and vegetation are sufficiently close together that a wildfire may spread between trees or vegetation and structures easily.
