COQUITLAM, B.C., August 13, 2026 – Get ready to vote in the upcoming General Local Election by registering in advance with Elections BC by Tuesday, August 18, 2026. 

Who Should Register to Vote?

Register to vote if you:

• Are 18 years or older, have lived in B.C. for more than six months, and are a Canadian citizen
• Have moved since the last election, update your voter information such as your residential or mailing address
• Plan to vote by mail
• Are 16 or 17 years old,  you can add your name to the “Future Voters” list

If you own property in Coquitlam but don’t live here, you may qualify to vote as a non-resident property elector. Find eligibility criteria under “Voter Information” at coquitlam.ca/elections.

To register as a non-resident property elector, contact Coquitlam Election Headquarters at elections@coquitlam.ca or at 604-927-3025 before heading out to vote. 

Why Register to Vote?

Registering in advance makes voting faster and easier, whether you vote by mail, at any of the advance voting opportunities (October 5, 8, 10, 13 and 15) or on general voting day (October 17). 

The City of Coquitlam will be using the Provincial Voters List for the upcoming election. Eligible voters can still register in person at the voting place. Learn more about voter eligibility and ways to vote at coquitlam.ca/elections. 

Get Out and Vote

On Saturday, October 17, eligible voters will elect one Mayor, eight Councillors and four School Trustees for the next four years. 

Information on when and where to vote is available at coquitlam.ca/elections. Information will also be mailed to Coquitlam households in October, as well as shared with media, e-news subscribers and social media followers.

COQUITLAM, B.C. August 11, 2026 – Keep gently used items out of the landfill and make more room in your home by joining the fall edition of Coquitlam’s City-Wide Garage Sale and Giveaway Event. 

This event takes place on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register now to have a sale at your house at coquitlam.ca/GarageSale.

Since launching in 2014, more than 2,299 households have taken part, keeping thousands of items from being thrown away. Participants can sell or give away gently used household items to give them a second life and contributing to a circular economy. 

When you sign up, your address is added to the City’s interactive map and promoted through the City’s website and social media channels to help more people find your sale as they plan their routes. 

Garage Sales Help Keep Items Out of the Landfill

The City-Wide Garage Sale and Giveaway Event supports the City’s waste-reduction goals by helping extend the life of everyday items and reducing what ends up in the landfill. It aligns with key priorities in the Environmental Sustainability Plan to: 

• Minimize waste generation 
• Maximize reuse, recycling and material recovery 
• Ensure opportunities exist to recycle or repurpose unwanted items to discourage illegal dumping and littering

 It’s also a great way to explore neighbourhoods across the city and connect with your community while discovering new-to-you treasures. 

Register Online to Get Started

Registration is now open and closes at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16. 

The event is open to single-family and duplex homes, as well as multi-family buildings with permission from the property owner, manager or strata. Online registration and details are available at coquitlam.ca/GarageSale. 

Participants can choose to take part on one or both days and select the types of items they’ll be selling or giving away, such as books, clothing, toys, electronics, home décor, furniture, tools or sports gear. 

No Yard? No Problem! Join the Dogwood Fall Swap and Sale

Don’t have space for a garage sale? Apartment and condo residents can still participate in sustainable style at the Dogwood Fall Swap and Sale on Saturday, September 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This indoor market-style event at Dogwood’s Centennial Pavilion and offers free entry for shoppers. Reserve your spot by registering at coquitlam.ca/Registration using Course ID 232811 by Wednesday, September 16 at 12 a.m. Tables are $34.65 each plus tax.

Residents can also find tips on running a successful garage sale, signage templates, donation options and advice for what to do with leftover items after the event at coquitlam.ca/GarageSale.

Recycling Options

If residents have items remaining after the event, the City suggests these options for donation and proper disposal:

• Check out organizations and locations on our Guide to Donating Locally.
• Residents who receive Coquitlam’s curbside collection service can request curbside pickup of up to four large items with the Large-item Pickup program by calling Waste Connections of Canada at 604-636-3521. coquitlam.ca/LIPU 
• Residents can use the Waste Wizard search tool to enter whatever item they need to recycle, giveaway or dispose of and to find out where and how to dispose of it correctly. coquitlam.ca/WasteWizard
• Drop off eligible items at the United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre, 995 United Boulevard. The facility features a large, full-service recycling depot for the free drop off of recyclables. The facility also hosts a Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver’s donation centre located on-site to drop off items in working condition to help support their youth mentorship programs. COQUITLAM, B.C., August 10, 2026 – Candidate packages are now available for people looking to run in the 2026 General Local Election taking place on October 17. Find or pick up the packages: 

• Online at coquitlam.ca/candidates
• In person from the City Clerk's Office on the second floor of City Hall (3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam, B.C.) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.

What Positions are Available?

In the 2026 Coquitlam General Local Election, voters will elect:

• One (1) Mayor
• Eight (8) Councillors
• Four (4) School Board Trustees for School District 43

To be eligible to run as a candidate for the office of Mayor, Councillor or School Trustee, a person must meet the requirements of the Local Government Act at the time of nomination. To see the list of requirements, visit coquitlam.ca/candidates. Nominations will be accepted from Tuesday, September 1 at 9 a.m. to Friday, September 11 at 4 p.m.

The City's contractor is completing intersection safety improvements at Clarke Road and Glenayre Drive. Work will begin the week of August 10 and be ongoing for approximately one month. Construction will take place Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

When: Construction will begin the week of August 10, and will be ongoing for approximately one month.  Work will take place Monday thru Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Traffic Impacts: Traffic flow will be impacted and there will be delays during active construction. Please plan an alternate to avoid delays or plan extra time when using this route. 

Driver Safety Reminder:When traveling through the construction zone, please:

• Drive with extreme caution and follow construction speed limits.
• Keep a close watch for work crews and heavy machinery.
• Obey all construction signage and instructions from traffic personnel.

When: Construction will began on June 29^th and will be ongoing until late August.  Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with possible Saturday work between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Traffic Impacts: Traffic will be impacted. There will be traffic delays during active construction with lane closures and possible turn restrictions in place. Please plan an alternate route to avoid delays or plan extra time when using this route. 

Travel with caution through construction zones, watch for work crews and equipment, and obey all traffic personnel and signs, including construction speed limits. Thank you for your patience.
