COQUITLAM, B.C., September 3, 2026 – Have community experience, a fresh perspective or ideas to share? The City is recruiting volunteers for four positions (two-year term) on the Coquitlam Public Library Board. Library Board members play an important governance role, helping guide the strategic direction of library services and supporting spaces and programs where people learn, connect and belong.

Bring Your Voice to the Table

The City is looking for people who want to contribute their time, ideas and expertise. 

Skills or experience in areas such as governance, communications, finance, education, technology, law or community organizations would be an asset. People with diverse backgrounds, perspectives and experiences are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must be Coquitlam residents or electors of the municipality, and be 18 years of age or older as of January 1, 2027.

An online information session for prospective Coquitlam Public Library Board members will be held via Zoom on:

Thursday, September 175:30 – 6:30 p.m.

COQUITLAM, B.C., September 2, 2026 – Celebrate Culture Days from September 18 to October 4 with free workshops, exhibitions, public art tours and community events that showcase Coquitlam’s vibrant arts and culture community.

Culture Days begins on Friday, September 18, at Town Centre Park Community Centre (1207 Pinetree Way) with the Culture Days Kick Off and Visual Arts Exhibition Reception. Residents are invited to connect with local artists, learn about Culture Days programming taking place across the city, and celebrate this fall’s new Visual Arts Exhibitions while enjoying complimentary refreshments.

2026 Visual Arts Exhibition

Running from September 18, 2026 to March 1, 2027, the City's 2026 Visual Arts Group Exhibition features the theme City Life: Art Inspired by Urban Living. This exhibition at Town Centre Park Community Centre showcases the work of local artists whose pieces explore the energy, diversity and everyday experiences of urban life. At Coquitlam City Hall, a second exhibition will be on display by Coquitlam artist Miranti Aisyah entitled In Transit, a series of photographs taken around public transit in the Lower Mainland, the coastal waters of B.C. and Indonesia.

This year's exhibitions bring local art into public spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the fall and winter. Learn more about these exhibitions at coquitlam.ca/ArtExhibition.

The nomination period is now open for people planning to run in the upcoming General Local Election in Coquitlam this fall.

COQUITLAM, B.C., September 1, 2026 – The nomination period is now open for people planning to run in the upcoming General Local Election in Coquitlam this fall.

Anyone running must file completed nomination papers by 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11. 

What Positions are Available?

In the 2026 Coquitlam General Local Election, voters will elect:

• One (1) Mayor
• Eight (8) Councillors
• Four (4) School Board Trustees for School District 43 (Coquitlam)

To be eligible to run as a candidate for the office of Mayor, Councillor or School Trustee, a person must meet the requirements of the Local Government Act at the time of nomination. To see the list of requirements, visit coquitlam.ca/candidates.

How to Obtain a Nomination Package

Nomination packages are available: 

• Online at coquitlam.ca/candidates
• In person from the City Clerk's Office on the second floor of City Hall (3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam, B.C.), from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday

Steps to Submit a Nomination Package

Candidates submitting their documents in person should book a brief 15-minute appointment with either the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer to review and file their nomination documents when they are ready. Appointments can be made by emailing elections@coquitlam.ca, or by calling 604-927-3025.

Candidates must make a solemn declaration regarding their eligibility to run in the election, their intent to accept the office if elected, and their intent to comply with local election financing rules. The declaration can be taken by a lawyer, notary or Commissioner for Taking Affidavits for British Columbia, but is most commonly taken by the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer at City Hall at the time the nomination papers are filed. 

Completed nomination packages can also be submitted by email to elections@coquitlam.ca. Emailed nomination papers must include the solemn declaration and be received by the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer by 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11.

Get Out and Vote

On Saturday, October 17, eligible voters will elect one Mayor, eight Councillors and four School Trustees for the next four years. Information on when and where to vote will be available at coquitlam.ca/elections, mailed to Coquitlam households and shared with media, e-news subscribers and social media followers.

Starting the week of August 31, traffic along Dewdney Trunk Rd between Lougheed Hwy and Mariner Way will be impacted, as part of the Metro Vancouver Dewdney Trunk Water Main Project., Temporary road closures at Sharpe St, Norman Ave and Ranch Park Way.

What: Metro Vancouver Dewdney Trunk Road Water Main Construction  - Road Paving

Where: Dewdney Trunk Road between Lougheed Highway and Marnier Way (Location Map)

When: Work is scheduled to begin the week of August 31 and continue for approximately one week (weather dependent).

Traffic Impacts & What to Expect:

• Temporary closure of Sharpe Street, Norman Avenue and Ranch Park Way at Dewdney Trunk Road.  Closure will occur one at a time to accommodate road paving, with detours in place for all users. 
  • Closure of Sharpe Street at Dewdney Trunk Road for two to three days, with a vehicle detour provided through Chilko Drive. A pedestrian detour provided along Lougheed Highway.
  • Closure of Norman Avenue at Dewdney Trunk Road for two to three days, with a vehicle detour provided along Ranch Park Way.
  • Closure of Ranch Park Way at Dewdney Trunk Road for two to three days, with a vehicle and pedestrian detour provided along Norman Avenue and the lane.
• Please plan an alternate route to avoid delays or plan extra time. 

 Driver Safety Reminder:When traveling through the construction zone, please:

• Drive with extreme caution and follow construction speed limits.
• Keep a close watch for work crews and heavy machinery.
• Obey all construction signage and instructions from traffic personnel.

The City's contractor will be completing work at the intersection at Pipeline Road and David Avenue starting on August 24 to 28 from 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Traffic signals at intersection will be temporarily out of service. Plan alternate route.

What: Pipeline Road Upgrades - Phase 2 (Storm Works and Traffic Signal Upgrades)

Where: Intersection at Pipeline Road and David Avenue (Location Map)

When: Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28 (weather permitting). Work will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Traffic Impacts: There will be traffic delays. In order to complete this work, traffic signals at intersection will be temporarily out of service and traffic personnel will be in place to direct road users. Crews will work on one corner of the intersection at a time. Pedestrians detours will be in place while work is taking place. Please plan an alternate route to avoid delays or plan extra time when using this route.
