Galette Park is a natural setting where on can enjoy the Coquitlam River.
Five salmon species can be found in the Coquitlam River:
Pink Salmon are the most abundant and the smallest species in BC, while Chinook, also known as King Salmon, is the largest. Chum Salmon are not very good jumpers - a waterfall can stop their upstream migration. The juvenile Coho is a very dynamic mover, performing a complex series of maneuvers to defend its territory. Sockeye Salmon, until recently, were locally extinct from the Coquitlam River. After a 100 years, thanks to a collaborative restoration effort, the Sockeye are returning in small numbers.
