COQUITLAM, B.C., September 23, 2026 – Coquitlam’s future Burke Mountain Community Centre and Burke Village Park have reached another milestone with design now 100% complete and ready to move into construction.
What’s Happening Now?
The schematic and detailed design phases were completed last year, early site work for the project started in February, and the project officially broke ground in May 2026. Since then, the project team has been completing the construction documents — the detailed plans and specifications contractors will use to build the project. In early September, the Government of Canada announced a major investment in the project through the Build Communities Strong Fund.
Crews have prepared the site for the next phase of construction by installing erosion and sediment control measures and a water treatment system to help protect nearby waterways and manage stormwater. Residents living nearby may notice increased construction activity as the current excavation work progresses. Full building construction is expected to begin later this year.
The City is planning for public art as well as collaborating with kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation to develop Cultural Recognitions to be featured in the facility.
Designed as One Destination
The finalized design delivers a community centre and park as one connected destination, bringing together swimming, fitness, library services, community programs and outdoor park space in a setting that complements the natural landscape.
