Lougheed Highway Improvement Projects

As part of the City’s annual capital program, a number of projects are scheduled to take place along Lougheed Highway in 2023.

Scott Creek Bridge Upgrade 

The Scott Creek Bridge located on  the south/north section of Lougheed Highway between Barnet Highway (Lougheed Highway) and Dewdney Trunk Road will be upgraded spring through winter 2023.

Work includes:

  • Bridge deck overlay replacement
  • Barrier upgrade
  • Sidewalk improvements

Project Timeline

Construction is expected to begin in May  2023 and will take approximately six months to complete (weather dependent). The project has been awarded to Klondike Infrastructure Ltd.

Traffic Impacts

Traffic will be limited to a single lane in each direction 24 hours a day for the duration of the project. Please plan an alternate route to avoid delays.

Lougheed Highway Safety Improvements

A contract to Jack Cewe Construction Ltd. to complete the improvements along  Lougheed Highway from Pitt River Road to south of ƛ̓éxətəm Road (Colony Farm Road). Improvements will include:

Project Timeline

Construction is scheduled to begin on July 31 and will be ongoing until late September (weather dependent). 

Traffic Impacts

Due to traffic volumes, construction will take place during the nighttime hours. 

Work will take place Monday to Friday between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with occasional weekend evening work as well. 

During active construction, traffic on Lougheed Highway will be limited to a single lane in each direction and there may be occasional turn restrictions at intersections.

Lougheed Highway Multi-Use Pathway

A new 3.5 to 4-metre-wide multi-use pathway (MUP) will be constructed along the north side of Lougheed Highway from Pinetree Way to Westwood Street. 

The new section of infrastructure will improve pedestrian, cycling and micromobility accessibility and it connects with the existing MUP on Pinetree Way.

Project Timeline

Construction is expected to begin in late April and will be completed in late summer/fall. The project has been awarded to Jack Cewe Construction Ltd. 

Traffic Impacts

There will be minor traffic impacts during construction. The westbound curb lane on Lougheed Highway will be closed during active construction, and traffic detours in place when work takes place at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Ponderosa Street.
