Town Centre Park
Work and upgrades in Town Centre Park are guided by the Town Centre Park Master Plan. This document provides a practical community-based vision and guiding principles, illustrative conceptual plans for future improvements and a phased construction strategy to implement developments to the park over the next 15 to 20 years.
The artificial turf playing surface on Field 6 (North Field) reached the end of its useful life and was replaced over the summer of 2024. Investment in a new playing surface will help to meet the needs of our growing community for years to come.
City crews have been improving the irrigation throughout the park, benefiting the long-term plant health in the area. Work is complete for 2024.

Approved by Council on July 26, 2021 after public consultation, the Lake Loop Improvements span about a quarter of Town Centre Park, a gem of Coquitlam’s park system and a local and regional destination for festivals and recreation.
The project improves capacity and the overall user experience, enhances safety and access for people of all abilities, and augments the park’s trees and greenery. The improvements are being implemented in phases with three distinct zones around Lafarge Lake: a Garden Walk on the east side, an Urban Walk on the west side and a Forest Walk on the south side.
Construction for the Garden Walk and Urban Walk completed in 2022. Forest Walk improvements are planned for 2025.
- Urban Walk improvements included repaving and lighting upgrades to improve pathway accessibility, capacity and visibility along with seating for resting and socializing; a two-stall universal washroom near Evergreen Cultural Centre was opened in 2021.
- Garden Walk improvements included new botanical garden beds with a wide variety of plants and trees to increase habitat for birds and pollinators, and construction of new pathways inviting visitors to enjoy the variety of sights, sounds, colours and textures of the garden display.
- Forest Walk improvements—anticipated in 2025—will include a widened asphalt trail with sections of boardwalk, extensive tree planting, lighting and new meandering trails.
As part of the construction work, existing trees and plants will be replaced to improve the long-term accessibility of the pathways and biodiversity of the park.
Other improvements from 2022 include:
- Widening and repaving approximately 700 linear metres of pathway through the Garden and Urban walks, including a pathway realignment to make the new washroom more accessible.
- New and upgraded lighting through the Garden and Urban walks including power and infrastructure for more seasonal lighting features, for use during events such as Lights at Lafarge.
- Flower and shrub planting areas in the Garden Walk, including drainage and irrigation, that will provide beautiful features while respecting the need for open space during large festivals and events.
- Site furnishings including seating walls, benches and garbage cans.
- Wayfinding signs including new signs for the Trans Canada Trail kiosk.

Percy Perry Stadium reopened in 2023 following a full replacement of the rubber track and synthetic turf field.
The City completed the track renewal and artificial turf replacement at the same time in order to maximize cost efficiencies and limit disruption to these key recreational amenities. Completion of the replacement work at both facilities ensures that the amenities remain of a high standard for our public to use, and the stadium upgrades will allow Percy Perry Stadium to continue to be Coquitlam’s top outdoor sports-hosting venue for years to come.
August 2024 Update
The track is now re-open after routine servicing and line painting.

The upgraded festival hub – along with its proximity to transit and stunning views of Lafarge Lake – leaves Town Centre Park well positioned to once again host major local and regional events in the future.
The project was completed in December 2020 and the festival lawn and new washroom building are open to the public.
Improvements include:
- A 650-square-metre (7,000-square-foot) plaza with concrete paving, a harvest picnic table, a large curved bench, fixed umbrellas for shade, lighting, and movable tables and chairs;
- A 190-square-metre (2,050 square-foot) washroom and servery building along the edge of the plaza, with men’s and women’s washrooms (three stalls each), two universal washrooms, and space and servicing for a future concession lease;
- An upgraded festival lawn with better sightlines to the stage, which will facilitate large civic events through improved drainage and irrigation systems, enhanced planting beds, and over 55 new shade trees;
- Upgraded pathways to improve circulation, and new lighting along main paths; and
- A localized power supply to support future event growth.

Built on the east-facing exterior of Evergreen Cultural Centre with easy access from the surrounding trails, the new public washrooms at the southwest end of Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park are now open to the public. This project was complete in October 2021.
Building features include:
- Two universal and fully accessible stalls, each with their own entrance, toilet, sink and folding change table;
- An exterior drinking fountain and water bottle filler;
- Wayfinding signs in the surrounding area to direct trail users to the washrooms; and
- Lighting to enhance visibility, surveillance and safety.
Documents
The old washrooms, located near the tennis courts, have reached the end of their usable life and have been demolished. Tennis players are asked to use the new washrooms in the Festival Hub area, located at the concession stand close to the tennis courts and near Parking Lot D.
Asphalt patching throughout the park took place over the summer of 2024 to enhance the park's aesthetic appeal and improve public safety.
