COQUITLAM, B.C., August 26, 2026 – As Coquitlam continues to improve the popular shared e-micromobility pilot program, all Lime shared e-bike and e-scooters will now have mandatory parking stations.

With the success of mandatory dockless parking stations in the city’s Town Centre, the requirement has expanded throughout Lime’s service area in Coquitlam to end all trips at designated parking stations, visible in the app and identified by markings on the ground or signage. 

These changes will help reduce sidewalk clutter and improve accessibility for people walking and using mobility aids. They will also increase Lime's ability to identify violations and issue fines to riders who do not properly park their device.  

New Parking Regulations 

Users must now park their shared e-scooter and e-bikes in designated parking stations, which can be found within the Lime app. One of the following methods physically marks the locations: 

• Painted/taped white box with a parking icon located on-street or within the pedestrian area
• Black mat with a parking icon 
• Lime-branded lawn sign

All shared devices are equipped with geofencing technology, which helps regulate the shared e-scooters and e-bikes when in specific zones. This technology helps users to find and park at designated parking stations, as well as physically slowing or limiting access in specific zones. 

With this new regulation, Lime’s system will not allow a trip to end unless the vehicle is parked at a designated station. 

In addition to facing possible fines, Lime members who fail to properly park their e-bike or e-scooter at a station will see their per-minute ride charge continue until the device times out after 15 minutes and the system ends the trip. Shared E-Micromobility Pilot

The Shared E-Micromobility Pilot, adopted in 2023, aligns with the Province’s electric kick scooter pilot project. It increases transportation options in Coquitlam’s City Centre with a low-cost solution that can connect users to the first and last kilometers of their journey — an alternative to short car trips that also supports more sustainable transportation trips. 

Enhanced program features in the past year include expanded service area in Coquitlam’s City Centre area and a continuous service area with Port Moody and their program with Lime, which also helps reduce devices being parked along  borders  (e.g. along Guildford Way and Barnet Highway west of Falcon Drive).

Rules and Etiquette 

The same rules that exist for personal e-scooters and e-bikes also apply to shared e-scooters and e-bikes, including but not limited to the following. 

• Riders must be age 16+ 
• Helmets are required
• One person per e-scooter or e-bike - no doubling up
• No sidewalk riding
• Riders must yield to pedestrians on pathways and obey all traffic signals and signage

Program Enhancements, Facts and Figures 

Coquitlam’s agreement with Lime runs through April 2027 with the option to extend for an additional year. City staff and Lime will continue to respond to resident and user feedback to help improve the program. 

Lime will continue to provide education programming on rider etiquette, parking compliance and safety through their user app, and by participating at community events. The City will also continue public education to reinforce etiquette and education for users and the public. 

Since the launch of Coquitlam’s Shared E-Micromobility Pilot program, the City has seen strong performance metrics including the following highlights:  

• Over 200,000 trips taken 
• Estimated 70,000 car trips replaced 
• 40% of trips take place at night when transit service is reduced
• One-third of residents don’t have a drivers license
