New Tennis Courts Coming to Town Centre Park

Tennis players will be serving up aces with new and improved courts as Coquitlam begins work to relocate and expand the tennis facilities at Town Centre Park.

COQUITLAM, B.C., July 29, 2025 – Tennis players will be serving up aces with new and improved courts as Coquitlam begins work to relocate and expand the tennis facilities at Town Centre Park.

When complete, the project will add more courts and a new support building, while also allowing for additional park improvements including more open green space for casual use and community events, as well as streamlining park maintenance.

More Courts in a New Location

The new dedicated tennis facility will have 10 full-size tennis courts and one half court—up from the current 8.5 courts—complete with high-quality playing surfaces, LED sports lighting, spectator seating, a bottle refill station, and four accessible parking stalls onsite. A new energy-efficient support building will replace the aging clubhouse and provide modern facilities for players and the broader community. Landscaping and tree plantings will ensure the facility blends seamlessly into the surrounding park environment.

In line with the Town Centre Park Master Plan (adopted in 2018), the new courts will be built just north of Trevor Wingrove Way, where the Recycling Depot and East Works Yard are currently located. Remaining open for play until the new courts are built, the existing tennis courts will then be restored to open lawn space for community events and festivals, and casual use such as playing games, picnicking or relaxing.

Local Recycling Options Support Community Waste Reduction Goals

As part of this project, the Town Centre Recycling Depot will permanently close in early 2026 to make space for the new tennis facility. Residents have several recycling options in Coquitlam to help reduce waste and maximize recycling and reuse. The Metro Vancouver-funded United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre accepts a wide range of recycling material, food scraps and yard trimmings at no cost to residents, and there are additional Return-It Depots across the City.

To find your nearest depot and to learn what’s accepted at the United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre, visit coquitlam.ca/recycling.

Coordinating with Regional Work

The relocation comes in response to Metro Vancouver’s Coquitlam Water Main Project, a major infrastructure upgrade happening along Pipeline Road on the eastern edge of Town Centre Park. The second phase of the Metro Vancouver’s project is expected to get underway in fall 2026 and extend until 2034. To reduce the impact of construction work on park users, the City will start the project earlier than originally identified in the Town Centre Park Master Plan.

Construction of the new courts and accompanying facilities is expected to start in 2026, with courts opening in 2027. Updates and park impacts will be shared on coquitlam.ca/TCPupgrades

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
