  • Introductory Sessions

We recommend all new participants begin at our introductory sessions:

    • Parent and Tot -  2 1/2 to 5 years
    • Preschool - 3 to 5 years
    • School Age - 6 to 12 years
    • Youth/Adult Beginner - 13 years or older

    Next Level

If you have already completed skating lessons at a different facility, we can do our best to fit you into the right level in one of 2 ways:

    1. Skating Evaluation - Come to one of our public skating sessions and one of our staff will conduct an on-ice skating evaluation to determine the proper level.
    2. Show Past Progress Card - Show our registration staff a copy of your past Progress Card from the other skating program and we will find the closest fit in our skating program.

  • When skating, bring:

    • Canadian Standards Association approved helmet (no bike helmets), face cage recommended for kids 7 and under
    • Gloves or mittens, waterproof is best
    • Knee and elbow pads, worn under clothing, are optional - wearing pads over clothes can make it slippery when trying to stand up
    • Skates, should be fitting properly and in good repair
      • Figure skates should be the same size as the shoes
      • Hockey skates should be one size smaller than shoe size
      • Skate and helmet rentals are available at the Skate Shop
    • Avoid plastic skates
    • A warm jacket or sweatshirt
    • Waterproof pants, such as snow pants or rain pants

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
