Utility Fee
Your Annual Utility Bill
At the end of February, all residential property owners receive a utility bill, which helps to fund household costs for clean drinking water, sewer systems, and garbage and green waste collection.
Pay your utility bill online with a credit card or learn other ways to pay your bill.
Due Date
Payment is due March 31, 2025, covering the billing period of January 1 to December 31, 2025.
What You’re Billed For
The City of Coquitlam provides clean drinking water, sewer disposal, and garbage and green waste collection to residents. The cost for these services is charged separately from property taxes.
The fees collected support ongoing operating costs, such as fees paid to Metro Vancouver Regional District, as well as the replacement of pipes, reservoirs and pumps, and administration and public education programs.
2025 Utility Rates
Single-family Dwellings
- 2025 Water Fee is $699
- 2025 Sewer Fee is $636
- 2025 Garbage Fee is determined by the size of your Garbage Cart* (the size of your Green Cart does not impact the charge, which includes both garbage and green waste collection and disposal)
- Small Cart (120 litres) is $284
- Medium Cart (240 litres) is $375
- Large Cart (360 litres) is $529
- 2025 Utility Bill Total

Multi-family Dwellings: Apartments, Townhouses and Mobile Homes
The rates for each residential dwelling unit in an apartment building, street-oriented village home residential, townhouse or mobile home park are:
- 2025 Water Fee is $419
- 2025 Sewer Fee is $636
- 2025 Total Utility Bill is $1,055
Apartments, townhouses and mobile homes do not pay a Garbage Fee to the City as they do not receive garbage and green waste collection from the City.
Breakdown of Fees
- 47% of the Sewer Fee is paid to Metro Vancouver to cover the costs of the regional sewer system including sewage treatment plants.
- 53% of the Sewer Fee covers City costs for the operation and management of the City’s sewer collection and drainage systems.

- Flat rate: $636
- Secondary suites: $254
Residences with Secondary Suites
Properties with secondary suites receive additional charges for water and sewer on the utility bill.

- 54% of the Water Fee is paid to Metro Vancouver to cover the costs of running the regional supply system, including water treatment plants that deliver the clean and safe water to Coquitlam.
- 46% of the Water Fee covers City costs for the operation and management of the City’s water distribution system that provides water for fire protection as well as household, business and recreational use.
In Coquitlam, multi-family homes pay a lower water rate than single family homes. This recognizes that, generally, multi-family homes consume relatively less water, so residents of those homes should pay a lesser share of those costs.

Residences with Secondary Suites
Properties with secondary suites receive additional charges for water and sewer on the utility bill.

Only properties that pay a Garbage Fee receive City waste collection services. Most stratified properties do not pay this fee because they receive private garbage collection instead. The Garbage Collection Charge covers:
- Collection of garbage and green waste from your home.
- The fees paid to Metro Vancouver to dispose of the garbage at their transfer station.
- The fees paid to the organics processor to compost the green waste at their facility.
- Large item pick-up, where properties can have up to four household items picked up each year.
- Seasonal unlimited yard trimmings collection for six weeks each spring and fall.
- Free, year-round drop-off of green waste at the United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre.
- Garbage and Green Cart maintenance, wildlife awareness and waste reduction programs, community education and customer service.
2025 Annual Flat Rate Charge
The Garbage Fee is determined by the side of a property's Garbage Cart. The size of your Green Cart does not impact this charge.

Multi-family Homes
