Adaptable and Accessible Housing

Adaptable and Accessible Housing

The City is committed to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion – an overarching Business Plan Priority focusing on initiatives to build an equitable and inclusive society for all.

Part of this commitment involves increasing Coquitlam’s supply of housing units that are affordable and accessible and/or adaptable.

Accessible housing refers to the construction or modification (e.g. renovation/home modification) of housing to enable independent living for persons with disabilities.

Adaptable housing is an approach to residential design and construction in which homes can be modified at minimal cost to meet occupants’ changing needs over time.

The City offers Adaptable and Accessible Housing Incentives (PDF) to encourage development that includes adaptable and accessible units.  The Affordable Housing Reserve Fund (PDF) also encourages accessible units.
