    The City of Coquitlam operates within the requirements set out by the Provincial Health Officer and all current public health orders are followed including proof of vaccination requirements and mask mandates.   1. FortisBC Holiday Skates

    The City of Coquitlam is once again partnering with FortisBC, this time to enchance a number of festive and fun drop-in skate events throughout the December. Visitors are encouraged to dress up and drop-in to skate with family and friends at the following events:

    • Skate with Santa – Sunday, Dec. 12, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. / 12:45 – 2:15 p.m. / 2:30 – 4 p.m.
    • Holiday Sweater Skate – Sunday, Dec. 19, 1:15 – 2:30 p.m. / 2:45 – 4 p.m.
    • Christmas Eve Skate – Friday, Dec. 24, 10 – 11:15 a.m. / 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
    • Boxing Day Skate – Sunday, Dec. 26, 10 – 11:15 a.m. / 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
    • New Year’s Eve Skate – Friday, Dec. 31, 10 – 11:15 a.m. / 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
    • New Year’s Day Skate – Saturday, Jan. 1, 10 – 11:15 a.m. / 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

    No preregistration is required for the drop-in skates. Skates are first come, first serve and capacity limits apply. Family admissions rates apply.

BC Vaccine Card Requirements for Recreation Activities

    As of Oct. 24, proof of full vaccination (two doses) is required for entry to certain places and programs, as outlined by the provincial government. 

     Visitors 12 years and older will be required to show their BC Vaccine Card prior to entry at a City facility include:

    • Events, including recreational programs, with more than 50 people
    • Exercise, fitness, dance activities or adult sports of any size
    • Drop-in activities and adult sports at arenas and gymnasiums (Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex arenas, Poirier Forum, Pinetree and Centennial Activity Centre gymnasiums)
    • Adult coaches, referees, volunteers and helpers assisting with child or youth sport or programs
    • Parents in parent-participation programs, except for swimming programs
    • Spectators at events or in or near program areas, including swimming

    Proof of vaccine will not be required at the following: 

    • Recreational programs or activities with less than 50 participants other than those stated above
    • Swimming pools (Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex, City Centre Aquatic Complex)
    • Child and youth participants in sport and recreational programs provided primarily for those under the age of 22 years
    • Before and after school programs
    • Teachers/instructors providing education activities with their students in City facilities
    • Rehab or exercise therapy programs

  1. Masks Mandatory for Recreation Facilities

    Safety protocols are in place at all City facilities to ensure the safety of program participants and staff.

    The Provincial Mask Mandate states that masks are mandatory for all people 5 years and older regardless of vaccination status. Specific to the community recreation setting, masks must be worn in common areas but may be removed during physical activity (sport and exercise). 

    The following individuals are exempt from mask wearing:

    • Children under 5
    • People who are unable to wear a mask due to psychological, behavioural or health condition, or a physical, cognitive or mental impairment
    • People who cannot remove a mask on their own


The Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex is a 190,000-square-foot aquatic, ice and fitness facility with:

  • Diving boards
  • Indoor fitness track - not available during ticketed events
  • Lap pool
  • Licensed café 
  • Leisure-therapy pool
  • Multipurpose rooms
  • Number of accessible features
  • Relaxation area with whirlpool 
  • Steam room and dry sauna 

Availability of amenities will vary during hours of operation. 

It offers a variety of ice skating, aquatic, fitness and dry floor programs, as well as pre-registered drop-in classes. It’s also home to the Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame, great amateur, championship-level hockey and lacrosse, as well as a licensed café.

Swimming Lessons Update

With the intention to continue to increase safety in our swimming programs for instructors and participants, adult participation in swimming lessons is no longer required. This change is effective starting Oct. 8, 2021.

Adult participation (16 yrs +) is still required for all Adult and Child lessons.

Fitness Centre Information

  • Fitness Centre users must be 13+. Note: Youth 13 – 15 must complete a mandatory Youth Fitness Orientation prior to using the Fitness Centre.
