Coquitlam Public Library Board and Board of Variance Need You   

Coquitlam City Council is currently seeking volunteers from the public to serve.


Eligibility and Requirements 

  • Applicants may not be employees of the City of Coquitlam.
  • Applicants who live in the City of Coquitlam are preferred.
  • Applicants should demonstrate knowledge, experience or potential to effectively contribute to the bodies they are applying to serve. 
  • Applicants should demonstrate their community involvement, knowledge of Board governance, general interest in public libraries or zoning matters, as well as experience or potential to effectively contribute to the Boards they are applying to. 
  • Applicants of any age, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, political belief, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental ability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, neighbourhood, and income level are encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Serve the full term of their appointment by attending scheduled meetings
  • Prepare for each meeting, which includes reading the agenda package
  • Among other tasks, contribute by conducting research and reporting the findings at meetings and participating in discussions  

Remuneration

As these are volunteer positions, successful candidates serve without remuneration.

Information Session for the Public Library Board

An online information session for prospective Coquitlam Public Library Board members will be held via Zoom.

  • Date: Tuesday, September 26 
  • Time: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

How Appointments are Made

Appointments are made by City Council

All applicants will receive a letter from the City in late 2023 advising of appointment decisions.

As a part of the application process, prospective candidates will be interviewed by the Library Board members and staff or City staff (depending on which Board you are applying to serve). Prospective candidates may be required to provide resumes and additional information at the time of the interview and consent to do so by signing the consent statement that is included with this application.

Meeting Frequency and Term Lengths

  • Public Library Board meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m., except in March, August and December. Appointment terms are for a two-year period.
  • Board of Variance meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. and typically does not meet in August or December. Board of Variance terms are for a three-year period.
