Property Tax Notices Are in the Mail

Residential and commercial property owners will be receiving their property tax notices in the coming weeks. Property owners who have signed up for electronic notices should receive their eBills this week.

COQUITLAM, B.C., May 22, 2024 – Residential and commercial property owners will be receiving their property tax notices in the coming weeks. Property owners who have signed up for electronic notices should receive their eBills this week.

Funding close to half of Coquitlam’s total budget, tax revenue pays for essential services that sustain the quality of life for Coquitlam residents, including:

  • Enhanced community safety
  • Resources to support housing affordability and supply
  • Police protection
  • Fire/rescue response
  • Recreation and culture services
  • Community events
  • Parks and trails
  • Infrastructure renewal

The average homeowner can expect to see an increase in property taxes of $210 for the year.

Approximately 40 per cent of the funds the City collects through property taxes are collected on behalf of other agencies, including the Province of B.C., TransLink, Metro Vancouver and B.C. Assessment, in order to fund regional services.

Starting in late 2023 and continuing in 2024, the City of Coquitlam has been navigating the financial and operational requirements of major Provincial legislation changes, including the Homes for People Action Plan, Emergency and Disaster Management Act, Pay Transparency Act and Accessible British Columbia Act.

While the legislation has imposed new requirements on municipalities, the necessary funding needed to undertake this work has not been provided by the Province. Despite this, the City has positioned its 2024 budget to meet these challenges, while continuing to deliver on key community priorities and maintaining service standards.

For questions regarding your 2024 Property Tax Notice, please contact the Revenue Services division at PropertyTax@coquitlam.ca or call 604-927-3050.

The deadline for 2024 property tax payments is Tuesday, July 2. A 5 per cent penalty will be applied to unpaid current taxes (including unclaimed Home Owner Grants) after July 2. An additional 5 per cent penalty will applied to unpaid current taxes after September 16.
