COQUITLAM, BC, Aug. 4, 2022 – Coquitlam crews will be taking advantage of the summer weather to bring a number of improvements to parks across the community.
These projects are just a few that fall under Coquitlam’s Capital Plan, which includes major recreation, facility and outdoor space projects to meet the community’s current and future needs.
Upcoming Projects for Summer 2022
Park upgrade work will be starting in the coming weeks on the following spaces:
- Alouette Park (485 Alouette Dr.) – New concrete stairs and refresh landscaping and pathways. Work will start mid-August and last through fall 2022.
- Crane Park (2060 Crane Ave.) – Building on the City’s commitment to revitalize older parks in Coquitlam, this park will receive upgrades including a new playground, a social gathering space, seating, new trees, new pathways, new drainage and irrigation. Construction will start mid-August and last through winter 2022.
- Oakdale Park (835 North Rd.) – Greening and opening of new parklands on Jefferson Avenue to start fall 2022.
- Riverview Park (728 Clearwater Way) – Parking lot upgrade including new paving, curbs and signage. Work to take place in Sept. and Oct.
- Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way) – Demolition will begin on the old washrooms near the tennis courts, which have reached the end of their usable life. Tennis players are asked to use the new washrooms in the Festival Hub area, located at the concession stand close to the tennis courts and near Parking Lot D.

- Lakeside Loop Trail at Town Centre Park – New pathways, flower gardens, landscaping and lighting.
- Mundy Park washrooms – Two universal accessible washroom buildings with bottle filler near the Chilko Drive entrance.
- Pop-up parks – Four pop-up park locations have opened this summer through the former Community Support and Recovery Plan (CSRP).

Providing Amenities Amid Escalating Construction Costs
The pandemic and extreme weather has led to significant increases in construction costs, exacerbated by supply chain issues and competition for resources.
Within this environment, Coquitlam continues to carefully plan and build amenities for current and future community needs. This work is supported by long-term financial planning – including the Five-Year Capital Plan for 2022-2026 – and overall strong fiscal responsibility.
City staff are continually working to enhance processes to deliver value, while minimizing disruption to the community. Coquitlam also maximizes funding sources that don’t impact local taxpayers, such as developer contributions and grants.
