[ARCHIVED] Environmental Achievement Awards Announced June 22

Coquitlam will recognize the recipients of the 2020 Environmental Achievement Awards at the City Council meeting broadcast on June 22.

COQUITLAM, B.C., June 19, 2020 – Coquitlam will recognize the recipients of the 2020 Environmental Achievement Awards at the City Council meeting broadcast on June 22.

Date: Monday, June 22, 2020
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: www.coquitlam.ca/webcasts

Tune in to the Council meeting to learn about the Environmental Achievement Awards and the 2020 recipients.

2020 Environmental Achievement Awards:

  • Began in 2004 and held every other year to recognize Coquitlam’s environmental champions.
  • More than 20 local groups and hundreds of volunteers dedicate their time and energy to supporting the environment in many ways, from raising awareness and funds to hands-on activities such as shoreline cleanups, building pollinator gardens, hatchery work, invasive plant removal and more.
  • Twenty-two nominations were received this year, a record number.
  • Green Sprout category was added this year to recognize that environmental stewardship often begins at a young age.
  • 2020 categories:
    • Green Sprout – ages 3-12
    • Individual – ages 13-18
    • Individual – ages 19 and up
    • Teacher or educator
    • Group – school or youth club
    • Group – organization, service club, etc.
    • Lifetime achievement – volunteering for 20 years or more
